This has got to be one of the "coolest" games ever released. Tell me, what
could be more cool then bombing down city streets and country roads on a
crotch rocket against other racers dodging cars, chased by the cops, and all
the while trying to kick the shit out of the other guys before they knock
you flying off your bike! I have played most versions of this game
(excluding the Panasonic 3DO version) and the Sega CD version brings home
something special. The control in this game is tighter then any other
version, you don't have that choppy feel when you make sharp turns like you
do in the psx and Saturn versions of this game. There is no pop up, unlike
the 32 bit versions. The backgrounds come in nice and smoothly and there is
no slowdown.

The kick ass alternative soundtrack is exactly the same, and
all the videos are there including the 2 music videos by Paw and
Swervedriver. The same 5 courses are there but they feel and look a lot more
like the ones in the 3 Road Rash games on Genesis. The courses have unique
backgrounds for each one and although the graphics are not as nice as the 32
versions, they are better then the Genesis versions. The weapons are all
there as well, such as the chain and the club. All the same bikes are there
from the 32 bit versions and I tried out each and every one of them and they
do control differently, while some seem sluggish others seem lightning quick
to different degrees and while some accelerate slow others accelerate
faster etc.. As in the 32 bit versions there are random people wandering
around that you can run over (Muhahahahahahahahaha!).

I can't help myself but to make comparisons when it comes to this bad ass
game and to this day not one Road Rash game out there has better A.I. then
the original Road Rash on Genesis. In the original when you flew off your
bike and were running back towards it, the guys still racing would run you
right over when you came into view! I mean 5 racers for example one after
another would jump your bones! All other sequels and versions of this game
do not offer that, the other racers avoid you. You will see other racers
fight it out, you will see big accidents happen right in front of you, and
you can run the guys over and jump their bikes.

There are a couple things that I just love in this version that are not in
the other versions. The jumps! My god its just like the Road Rash games on
Genesis, once you get into the fast bikes you'll often jump right off the
screen! Also when you fly off your bike for whatever reason, the music
starts to fade as you get further away from your bike, and then as you run
back towards your bike the music gets louder! Its as if you have some cool
bike stereo! Cool! Another thing to note is that when your running you can
slip on the oil slicks and fall on your ass!
This game becomes a real challenge when you reach level 5. What I did, was
race level 1 over and over again until I had $40, 000. Then I tried all the
bikes and of course my favorite is the diable (nitro version) and then
played the rest of the game with that one. This game can be much more of a
challenge depending on the bike you choose. You could have close
head-butting races or you can just blow everyone away until level 5 that is
;)
The bottom line is even if you have played other versions of this game you
will still find plenty of fun and coolness in this version and in certain
cases you will even like some things more in this version then in any other.
I had a blast!

9/10
