A Quick
History of My Life.
I was born and raised in a Lee County, VA. It is a very small place
right in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. I was the biggest nerd
at my first school. I was such a nerd that the other nerds picked on me.
When I was 11, we moved to another town in the area, and I went to a new
school. I was bound and determined to make myself over and to become
"cool". So, I threw away the glasses, let my hair grow, and covered
myself in black. You know back when black was more Rock n Roll/Biker
than it was Goth.I went on to make
a nice reputation for myself in that county. By the time I was 16, I
couldn't get 2 miles from my house without the cops pulling me over for
something. Then when I was 17, I was robbing a soda machine and pulled
it over on myself. When the cops came, they just laughed at me and
harassed me. It took them over an hour to call an ambulance, and I was
laying there with bones sticking out through my pants legs, in a pool of
blood. This ordeal showed me how much I needed to get away from that
place.
So, after I was able to walk again, I
packed up my car and headed down to Winston-Salem, NC. In no time I had
landed a great job in a Textile factory, had my own place, and was
working my ass off to bring home loads of money. I actually thought I
was happy.
Then my high school sweetheart, and the
love of my life, came to visit me after her Basic Training in the Army.
She was headed to Alaska. We spent a few days together, and I realized
that she was what I was missing. So, on the spur of the moment, we got
married.
I ended up following her up to Alaska,
and we lived there for three years. I took my hobby of working on cars,
and tried to turn it into a career, since there were no other jobs up
there. We both had our wild sides back then and we really let ourselves
go crazy for awhile. The my wife became pregnant with my son. His birth
brought a calming aspect to me that has never worn off. I immediately
grew up, when I became a father.
My wife then got transferred to Fort
Bragg, NC. If I've never told you before, we drove straight out of
Alaska, through Canada, and to Virginia, only stopping for food and gas,
and it was over 4300 miles. My wife finished her last year in the
military at Fort Bragg, and when she got discharged, we moved back to
Winston-Salem. I went back to my old job with a new goal in life. I now
hated working on cars, but had a new hobby, Computers. I went to ECPI in
Greensboro and studied Computer Technology.
After graduating at the top of my class,
I got a call from Coinstar. They were still a very young company and
they offered me a shitload of money, to relocate to Virginia. When they
agreed to pay for my moving expenses, I decided to take the job. I
worked for them 1 year, and was terminated for rolling one of their vans
over a few times.
During my unemployment, I often wondered
why the hell I took the job and why I moved. I hated being where I was
because there were no Tech jobs that paid good money. Recently, I've
realized that I have so many reasons to be grateful for being here
though. While living here, I joined the IGC, I found a great school for
my son, my wife just had twins, and I finally got a killer job.
I truly believe that everything happens
for a reason and I thank God for bringing me to this place and for
letting me get to this point in my life.
